How much is too much for our advanced learners?

I recently read this article and it deals with questions I ask myself every day - What are the values of taking college level classes as high school students?  How many of the most rigorous classes should our students take?  Are we sending a message that their transcript is the only thing that demonstrates what they have learned?

"The study found a strong correlation between students taking up to five college-level courses in high school and their first-year grade point average. More college-level courses -- up to five -- yielded higher academic performance in college. For students taking six or more college-level courses, gains in first-year GPA were marginal or even negative. The average grades for students who had taken 10 college-level courses in high school were the same as those who had taken only five such courses."

The Gifted and Talented department will take Nobel students to the History Theater on Thursday, February 22nd to see “A Crack in the Sky”.  This will be its world premiere and it features two local playwrights, Harrison David Rivers and Ahmed Ismail Yusuf. The play is described as, “ From Somalia to the U.S.A. 1984.  A young shepherd boy stands in front of his mother to tell her of the decision he has made in the night. He has had enough of the nomadic life, of herding goats and sheep, and is leaving to seek out a better life. With that, he sets off on an adventure that takes him on the road less traveled from Somalia to Minnesota. Advice for High Achieving Seniors

Looking for Creative Learners!

I had a great day today at Oak Grove Middle School in Lisa Kiner's 2 Honors English classes.  I did a SCAMPER activity to develop their creative thinking skills in an effort to find some more kids for Nobel at Kennedy.  I was impressed with their creativity!
