DAHS Tri 3 planning

February 23, 2021 Dear DA HS parents/guardians and students, Thank you for your patience as we figure out how to adapt our DA programming for this latest learning model change. I know you need to tell BPS by Friday whether you plan to return for in-person learning and I hope this information will be helpful to you in your family discussions. The new schedule will offer in-person learning at both high schools from 7:50 am to 1:37 pm with time in the afternoon for academic support. These are the daily schedules for tri 3. Page one is the in-person schedule and page two is the distance learning one. I met with Jaysen Anderson, Justin Hall, Akram Osman, Kris Krenz and Erin Boltik today and this is our tentative plan for DA for tri 3: Kennedy STEM students will be bussed to Jefferson for their STEM classes. Similarly, Jefferson Humanities students will be bussed to Kennedy for their Humanities classes. We are still finalizing the bus schedule with transportation but my hope is that will be communicated soon. DA STEM 10 students will continue to take Calculus II and Chemistry online at NCC from 7:50-9:35 am. If students want to work at JHS or KHS so that they can more easily get to their period 3/4 class they will be able to do so. DA STEM 10 students will be assigned to a specific space to work from for their periods 1 and 2 if they are not learning at home. You should be able to get to your 3rd period class on time if you are in the building. If a student wants to remain in distance learning full time, because of health considerations or other, we encourage you to make this choice. In addition to possible concurrent learning opportunities during class time, students who are taking a class online will get time at the end of the day once a week (referred to as DL Synch Meets on the schedule) to make sure that their educational needs are met. However, the online version of the class will be primarily asynchronous and will require students to come prepared to their DL synch sessions so that they can get the most out of their time with their teacher. We are still planning and discussing how the class time will be used. I cannot answer right now to what degree students will be taught simultaneously in person and online or how the class periods will be structured, but as these plans become more finalized I will communicate them to you. Many things are still being worked on as a part of this transition to in person learning so there will be more communication coming from me as more of the details get sorted out. Sincerely, Meredith

Advice for High Achieving Seniors

On Monday Dr. Jennifer Gerz-Escandon gave the following remarks at the Bloomington Senior Achievement night .  I really enjoyed them so I asked her to share them with me.  I think she has some great advice for our students.   Bloomington High School Achievement Ceremony Remarks ( April 2017 ) Jennifer Gerz-Escandón , PhD Kennedy High School Class of ‘83 Thank you Meredith for the kind introduction.  Thank you Bloomington Public Schools for always welcoming me home.  Congratulations Kennedy and Jefferson seniors on your achievements!  You've gained impressive lift off and now it's time to start looking beyond high school to find ways to continue making an impact. What can you do during the next four years to set the foundation for a lifetime of achievement? As a former professor and current Honors College administrator, I encourage students to consider this question every day. By show of hands, how many of you are headed for college? Who's t...
