Our DAHS Program is in the News!

A great district-college collaboration found in Bloomington Joe Nathan  Feb 1, 2019 “This is it!” That’s how Tuan Dinh, a 15-year-old 10th-grader in Bloomington, describes his reaction when he heard about the opportunity to take courses as a ninth-grader on the Normandale Community College campus. Conversations with students, parents and educators over two weeks in January convinced me that Tuan is right.  The Bloomington Public Schools and Normandale College collaboration, called Dimensions Academy, isn’t the only way to serve gifted students well. But it is a great model.  Now in its fifth year, the program serves about 25 ninth- and 25 10th-graders, offering an advanced math and science class in the morning. Students return to their high school in the afternoon. Reminder: to find college prep materials (including ACT and AP Test Practice) for your students (or kids at home) use the LearningExpress Library, a FREE resource from ELM (Electronic Library for Minnesota). January is high school registration time.   The gifted and talented department has some upcoming information nights we want you to know about.  If you can't come or have specific questions you can also email Meredith Aby-Keirstead our high school gifted and talented coordinator at maby@isd271.org.
